Title: Communications Intern
Position Type: Temporary – Paid Internship
Summary: Harris-Galveston Subsidence District is seeking a motivated college student looking to gain experience in communications this summer. The intern will work very closely with the Communications Specialist, coordinating digital marketing activities, media relations, data management, and various communication activities. We will empower our intern to work with confidence while fine-tuning communication skills, including strategic planning, branding, design, decision-making, time management, and organization.

About HGSD: In our area, the substantial, long-term withdrawal of groundwater has led to subsidence and has contributed to increased flooding, damage to roads, and infrastructure issues. Our mission is to prevent further subsidence by reducing our reliance on groundwater and improving efficiency with overall water usage. We are passionate about positively impacting our local communities and collaborate with many other organizations to achieve this.

Responsibilities:
  • Developing communications content for social media, websites, and more
  • Managing, organizing, and updating contact lists
  • Creation of informational and promotional digital content, including graphic design projects and videos
  • Assisting with various communication needs for our special programs, events, and presentations as needed
Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student who has completed at least two years of college. Prefer candidates majoring in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Must have a 2.8 or higher GPA.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, compassionate, detail-oriented, and professional.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management, video production, and graphic design is highly desired.
  • Ability to interact in a professional environment with staff and Board Members.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Duration: Ten (10) consecutive weeks beginning on Monday, June 3, 2024, and ending on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Work Environment:
  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • Located at 1660 West Bay Area Boulevard, Friendswood, Texas, 77546
  • Intern office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with 1-hour lunch break per day.
Compensation:
  • $15.00 per hour
  • Because this is a temporary position, the internship is not eligible for company benefits.
