The Harris-Galveston Subsidence District, in cooperation with the Fort Bend Subsidence District, will host the fifth stakeholder meeting for the Joint Regulatory Plan Review (JRPR) virtually from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
In addition to a general project update from the Districts and an update from the Texas Water Development Board (TWBD), the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) will present preliminary findings for the Gulf Coast Land Subsidence and Groundwater Flow (GULF)-2023 model. The USGS will discuss the methodology, data compilation and collection, and preliminary results of the model calibration. This meeting will serve as the third groundwater availability model stakeholder advisory forum.
The District is working with the USGS and the TWDB to develop the (GULF)-2023 model that will simulate the impacts of groundwater use on aquifer water levels and land subsidence. The model area will be used as regional tool for planning efforts related to the Groundwater Management Area 14 in addition to the Joint Regulatory Plan Review.
The purpose of the Joint Regulatory Plan Review is to estimate future changes in population and water demand, assess the availability of future alternative water supplies, review and update predictive subsidence models, and evaluate planned regulatory requirements on future subsidence rates.
