About the School Program

The need for educating our children about the importance of water conservation — and, just as important, showing them specific ways to conserve — is a critical component to ensuring our future water supply. Our school program provides teachers with educational materials to help educate students about Texas water, while empowering them through hands-on activities that save water and help prevent land subsidence.

Formerly known as the WaterWise program, our new and improved water conservation school program, now called H2O LAB!, provides locally-based water education to 3rd through 6th-grade classrooms in Fort Bend, Galveston, and Harris counties at no cost to the teachers or students. The TEKS-aligned lessons allow teachers to easily integrate the program into their classroom. Material and resources are available through the program’s secure, online web application where teachers have access to on-demand tutorials, can download digital lesson plans in multiple languages, as well as can track student activities and assessment data submitted through the online portal. Both teachers and students have exciting opportunities to win cool prizes as they complete activities and also receive a free take-home water conservation kit filled with products that can be used to save water at home.

The goal of the program is to educate students to value water in our region, provide tools and resources to help families practice water-saving habits, as well as raise awareness about subsidence and ways to prevent it. This program is made available through sponsorships from local water providers and businesses.
