During the October 5th meeting, the Groundwater Management Area (GMA) 14 agreed on language for the proposed desired future condition (DFC) for the upper Gulf Coast Aquifer, and postponed the vote to adopt the DFC until 2022. View the recording from the meeting here.
The DFC currently sets limits on how far the aquifer water level can be drawn down. The planning group is also considering limits on subsidence or the sinking of land surface.
“The subsidence metric in the proposed DFCs for the GMA 14 area elevates the conversation about subsidence in our region,” General Manager Mike Turco said. “Subsidence is an ongoing risk and examining it at a regional level is key to avoiding additional flooding and infrastructure impacts.”
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
