Our Director of Research and Water Conservation, Ashley Greuter, has been selected as an Affiliate for the UNESCO Land Subsidence International Initiative (LaSII). This is a significant honor as UNESCO LaSII is dedicated to enhancing the scientific and technical knowledge that is required to identify and characterize hazards related to subsidence. LaSII promotes and facilitates the international exchange of information regarding the design, implementation and evaluation of risk assessments and mitigation measures, and the definition of resource-management strategies that support sustainable development in areas vulnerable to subsidence.
The LaSII strives to integrate representatives from each country in the world affected by subsidence, and Ashley will proudly represent our country as UNESCO LaSII’s USA Affiliate.
The Harris-Galveston Subsidence District has a long-standing commitment to collaboration and has participated in UNESCO LaSII events like the Tenth International Symposium on Land Subsidence.
